  5. I heard about this book from my friend whose husband has apparently been taking it everywhere and who has been heard laughing out loud at the oddest and most inappropriate times (Ok maybe my friend was exaggerating). Can hardly wait to get my hands on a copy. I am one of those who think Ghana is home though I have no links other than a nephew, a handful of friends and the love of the place - and the food of course EXCEPT OKRO!!!!!!

Good luck young lady and I wish you all of the best

    Regards

    Zanele

  11. hi, Alba

your website is cool. Did you design it yourself? Also The Idiot's Guide to Doing a Nigerian Home movie and Ghanaian Lingo is hilarious. Like I told you on FB, I was a big fan of your 'Imported Ghanaian' column for the Daily Dispatch.

  14. Hi Alba, I have just got back from Ghana and I am in the middle of reading your book. Most of the time i find myself laughing my head off , or nodding in agreement, but also I feel a certain sadness because a number of the issues you raise are not only accurate, but also disturbing. I hope enough Ghanaians based in the country will take time to read it as it gives a lot of food for thought.

Do you still write your column?

    Afua

  15. Wow, I felt like I was back in Ghana while looking over your site. I have visited the country 3 seperate times since 2005 with the latest in June 2009. I truely love the country and the people there. My favorite place to visit is Yendi in the Northeastern Region. I will look for the book my next time in Accra. Keep up the good work.

  16. Good stories, witty prose, fun site borne by a creative soul... Best of all, 100% Ghanaian! You make us proud. Would that more "returnees" had your spirit. Keep shining in that corner where you are. For your light illuminates where you might not know.

    Mo, w'aye adie.

  18. Although site and book is fun, it sure elicits thought.
I wonder why Bush Rat thinks otherwise.
Sounds like a hater and wish I could meet the person
Been in chop bars and drinking spots and never heard these stories
Was reeling with laughter when I picked up the book at the Mall because I could tick a yay to every point about the 20things you need to know about Ghanaians.
    Kudos to you gurl!!!

  24. I'm truly impressed. You have a fun site.

  25. I really enjoyed your website! Fun and informative, especially the insults. I've been limiting myself to "are you crazy or what," "you are crazy" and "you are a fool" (or some combination of them). While they're all very effective, especially coming from the mouth of a middle aged obroni woman, they're not as "powerful" as I might like (in certain situations, of course).

My 3 kids who attend school here in Tema could probably help you with your insult list, but I'd like to hold onto the secret of where I got my newest insults from, in case I have to use it on them. ;-)

    Again, really terrific website. Thanks!

  31. Compared to the website, the book is fantastic.

sadly, madame is not better than all the rest of the so-called professionals in this country.

  32. Ok, I know it has been published some time ago and I only read it now.

BUT, the author of the IMPORTED GHANAIAN, who believes that the Ghanians should accept her as one of their own, is actually a typical expatricate. Nothing actually wrong with that, but the author herself says that expats suck.

stupid book, just telling the stories that are told in countless drinking spots day-in, day-out all over the country with no understanding of how the country really works.

but am sure that the authour has a great future in an NGO.
